Caring Adults Needed to Mentor Students

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County is looking for adult volunteers who are interested in being matched with a student in our School Mentoring Program. Mentoring takes place at partnering schools which include Maple Point, Poquessing, and Neshaminy Middle Schools. Mentors meet one-on-one with students during the school day for 45 minutes to 1 hour every other week.

The School Mentoring Program of Big Brothers Big Sisters provides students the opportunity to meet with a caring adult. Volunteers from the community, as well as employees from local businesses and companies, serve as mentors in the School Mentoring Program.

Students who have a caring adult mentor are better able to understand and follow boundaries and expectations, as they face everyday challenges. Mentored students demonstrate improved self-confidence, feel empowered and develop positive values and social competencies.

School mentors have a desire to make a difference in student’s life and make a commitment to meet regularly. Mentoring does not require any experience. School mentors are everyday people of all ages, from all walks of life, who enjoy working with youth.

Friendships develop from shared experiences and quiet conversations. Matches enjoy playing a game, sharing a snack, taking a walk, or learning a craft in designated areas at each of the partnering schools. Mentoring magic is about sharing gifts and talents with a student in a one-on-one relationship. Great things happen in simple ways!

Think about being a School Mentor and act upon it today! Contact Ann Gillette, School Coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters at 215-343-8260 Ext 22 or gillette@bbbsbc.org.
